Influence and inspiration

Tell us about a leadership lesson that you’ve learnt that’s unique to being a female leader.

The value of teamwork, building relationships with a focus on strong collaboration, sharing ideas and trust building.

I strongly believe that different people can bring unique perspectives to jobs and issues, and those perspectives can change the entire workflow for the better outcome. So I always like to ask my team members about their opinions and encourage them to share their suggestions without any hesitation.

Teamwork begins by building trust. I also believe that it takes time to be developed and earned. As leaders, we need to lead by example and trust our team’s capabilities and competencies. At the same time, be resourceful, keep learning (I always learn from the team members) and share knowledge. When the team achieves success, we celebrate together. When they are in difficult situations, I am there to support them all the way through.

Have you drawn professional inspiration from other women? Tell us about someone who has inspired you.

I draw inspiration from the leadership style of Jacinda Ardern, Prime Minister of New Zealand. Her ability to keep calm under pressure, stay composed while gathering her thoughts and addressing a situation, gives us an insight into what she’s like as a leader.

Jacinda also shows that women and mothers can hold the same jobs that men do, and that having a family to take care of doesn’t affect a woman’s ability to do her job if she has the correct support network and resources around her.

Career

What energises you about work?

I enjoy partnering with my colleagues, having the freedom to share ideas, develop on them and make changes for the better.

What advice would you give to the next generation of female leaders?

Find your passion! Passion, combined with hard work, is the most important factor for success. It may take a while to find the right fit, but do not get discouraged.

Women empowerment

How has FSMK empowered you to #breakthebias and be the leader you are today?

FSMK provides an inclusive work environment for female co-workers. Regardless of gender or position, FSMK commits to providing learning support and upward progression based solely on ability. My views and the team’s views are heard and respected. This allows us to focus on the deliverables and encourage more ideas.

How should women support other women in their organisations?

Identify a platform to share inspirations, challenges and celebrate accomplishments. Provide an environment and opportunities for women peers to showcase their value and how their work benefits their organisations.
